Initially, the pods where lying horizontal. To one pod I added a counterweight that resulted in a tumbling object. In this way I designed a ceramic object with a surprising balance and the playfulness of a roly poly.
Inside, both pods have LED lights sensors and an Arduino board. When you slap or push the translucent pods, they start to glow. The tumbling pod contains a gyroscope that triggers the red lights when pushing. The other has a build-in accelerometer that activates a white light for 15 seconds every time you slap the pod. Pushing and hitting a ceramic object provokes a surprising interaction with the visitor.
The pods are unique, but at the same time common in nature: they originate from the same mould and obtain an identical basic shape and dimension. The pods have a strong industrial rough character. I deliberately decided not to glaze in order to preserve the natural porcelain look. These pods balancing between an object of art and a design product.
The pods differ definitely in position (vertical vs horizontal), colour of led light used and interaction modus due to the use of different sensors (slapping vs pushing).
